2016 MSLA Annual Conference MSL Code 'Hot topics' session additional materials

As MSLA members and especially for those of you that attended the 2016 MSLA Annual Conference in March, you will remember the MSL Code 'Hot Topics' session led by Dr Rina Newton. The audience feedback from the session was excellent. During the session Dr Newton promised to follow-up with additional points to consider for each of the 3 scenarios. With this in mind here are two documents:

  • A PDF slide deck including interactive voting responses from the audience on key questions related to MSL(
  • A PDF listing key points to consider for each of the 3

These document can be found here, and are only availible to MSLA members.

We hope that you find these documents useful.

 2016 MSLA Annual Conference

On Tuesday 22nd March 2016, we hosted our Annual Conference at Park Inn, Heathrow. This was preceded by the AGM: minutes of which can be found here.

The conference attracted a record number of delegates, 128 in total (excluding our expert panel of speakers), which was an incredible example of the growing strength and depth of MSLA awareness and the perceived value of our Annual Conference.

113 delegates were pharma employees representing 39 unique Pharmaceutical Industry companies. Of these 113 delegates, approximately 10% were aspiring MSLs, 50% MSLs, 20% national MSL leads, and 10% international MSL leads. The remaining 15 delegates were representatives of 9 different consultancy companies (e.g. recruitment, service providers, training etc).

Photos from the conference can be found here. Materials which we have permission to share can be found here. We had an excellent and varied panel of speakers throughout the day which started with a thought provoking ‘Perception of Risk’ presentation by Michael Blastland...Read more...

2015 Conference Findings The MSL Professional Development Journey

For those of you that attended the 2015 MSLA Annual Conference in March, you will no doubt remember the MSL Professional Development Workshop which Helen Kane (ex-chair of the MSLA) ran. This session explored the following key areas:

  • Identifying core MSL competencies
  • Identifying core MSL knowledge areas required by an MSL in order to embark upon and then progress along the MSL Professional Development Journey
  • Benchmarking and ongoing assessment against these core competencies and knowledge areas
  • Potential training offerings to support MSL Continued Professional Development

We are very proud to inform you that the proceedings and outputs of the workshop have now been published in the Pharmaceutical Physician Journal. Click here to read the article.

MSLA 2015 Conference Findings

From the 2015 MSLA Annual Conference, you will no doubt remember the MSLs Sharing and Learning Altogether session and the interactive workshop which focused on three ‘hot topics’ for MSLs/ MSL leads:

  • The percentage of time MSLs are expected to spend directly interacting with HCPs (face-to-face)
  • MSL support for clinical development activities
  • The degree of ‘proactivity’ versus ‘reactivity’ when MSLs interact with HCPs

The findings of the workshop have now been published in the Pharmaceutical Physician Journal (the journal of BrAPP – British Association of Pharmaceutical Physicians). Please click here for a copy of the journal (see page 5 and comments from the editor, Dr Madhu Davies and pages 20-28 for the article).
