MSLs recognised for job well done

Medical science liaisons (or MSLs as they are also known) are an increasingly important link between the industry and clinical experts, says Zinta Krumins, managing director at Boehringer Ingelheim UK and Ireland.

“The ever increasing demand for scientific information, rapidly evolving clinical trends and associated outcomes data are just some of the intelligence that can be shared,” she notes, adding: “Doctors need a balanced discourse on treatments, and the importance and value of strong scientific discussion between clinical experts and industry cannot be underestimated.”

To reflect this new job role, PharmaTimes this year launched a new MSL of the Year competition with the help of our professional steering committee, headed by Helen Kane, also chair of the Medical Science Liaison Association. “The MSL of the Year Award is great recognition for this non-promotional function and a wonderful opportunity to be among peers from within the industry and to have feedback from an independent panel around their competencies and skill sets.”

Nineteen MSLs entered this year, with the Pharma being awarded to Celgene’s Jane Blockley. “This competition recognises the crucial place MSLs hold within any company’s field-based structure and the value they bring to an organisation,” she says. “Not only does it truly test your skills but also provides you with great personal and professional insight.”
