2016 MSLA ‘How To...’ The Code & Ethics

2016 MSLA ‘How To...’ The Code & Ethics

Delivered by Dr Nick Broughton of "Green Bear Medical Ltd"

This one day training course is a highly interactive day which will involve a close scrutiny of the principles underlying the ABPI Code of Practice such that every clause can be understood in terms of the ethical reasoning behind it.   A particular emphasis will be given to clause 3 which relates to promotion of medicines outside of their marketing authorisation, as well as other clauses particularly relevant to the MSL role.

The meaning of promotion and perception of promotion will be explored fully to bring uniformity of understanding to the group.  The afternoon session will involve small group workshops analysing and discussing difficult compliance scenarios.  Past Code cases will be used to illustrate key points of principle as well as to highlight how reasonable differences of opinion can occur.

The purpose of this one-day workshop is to analyse the ethical basis of the ABPI Code and associated pharmaceutical legislation and use this understanding to develop the compliance decision-making skills of attendees. This is an advanced course and it is expected those attending will have a good basic knowledge of the 2016 ABPI Code.

The workshop will consider why people make different compliance decisions on the same activity and will provide techniques to assist in making difficult compliance decisions. There will be particular focus on the concept of medicines promotion and how to understand whether particular activities will be considered promotional or not.

The trainer has worked extensively with MSL teams in the past and all content will be focussed on the MSL role.
