The MSL, the Code and Compliance Pitfalls

Thursday 9th October 2025 13:00 - 14:00 (BST)

A pragmatic and case-led look at how the ABPI Code impacts the MSL role and where compliance risks often arise

Masterclass Details:

In this insightful 60-minute masterclass for LSAA and MSLA Members ethics expert Dr Nick Broughton offers a comprehensive review of how the ABPI Code applies to the role of the MSL, drawing from real PMCPA case studies.

Nick will guide participants through a series of case examples involving MSLs, showing how different companies have interpreted the Code and what those interpretations have meant in practice.

The masterclass will explore the ambiguity surrounding the MSL’s involvement in promotional activity, how organisations navigate that space, and what pitfalls are most commonly encountered in the field.

This is not just a review of guidance. It is a conversation grounded in case precedent, real-world complexity and practical risk.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the expectations and responsibilities of the MSL role in relation to the ABPI Code
  • Identify the most common compliance challenges faced by MSLs in day-to-day activity
  • Consider the argument about whether MSLs should ever be involved in promotional work and examine both sides of the debate including examining real-world examples
  • Strengthen confidence in supporting MSLs to operate in a Code-compliant way across a variety of organisational settings
